General Information
Students may attend Hillsborough County Community College (HCC) on a part-time basis. Courses taken at HCC will receive both High School credit and College credit as well as a bonus of .08 added to the cumulative GPA for every .50 credit received.
Eligibility
Students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- be a student in a Florida public or nonpublic secondary school with an articulation agreement on file with HCC, or in a home education program;
- have a 3.0 unweighted grade point average to enroll in credit courses or a 2.0 unweighted grade point average to enroll in vocational certificate courses;
- pass the appropriate section of the Postsecondary Educational Readiness Test (PERT) or have the appropriate scores on the SAT or the ACT (not more than two years old).
- Permission from the parent/guardian and high school principal and counselor.
- Must have an understanding that the amount of work necessary to succeed in dual enrollment courses will be greater than in high school courses.

- Step 1: Meet Eligibility Requirements. See above.
- Step 2: Complete teh HCC Dual Enrollment Application for Admissions. Go to https://www.hccfl.edu/admissions/apply-online
- Step 3: Register Your Net ID. Go to https://netid.hccfl.edu.
- Step 4: Submit Test Scores (SAT, ACT, PERT). See above.
- Step 5: Submit Paperwork for Approval and Register for Classes
- Step 6: Bring a copy of your DE schedule to Mrs. Hardy in the guidance office to activate your textbook authorization code. This will allow you to get your book(s) (for free).

How do I find out which classes to take?

Dual Enrollment students cannot take preparatory or remedial courses, physical education courses or courses less than 3 credit hours.

- Students may take up to 9 credits per semester. You can search for class sections available at HCC for the term you wish to enroll.
- DE/college courses are all a semester in length. A student can choose to take 2 DE courses, one during 1st semester and one during 2nd semester, to have a period off from school every day each semester. Or, the student can enroll in a DE course during any/either semester and take a course at Brandon High School the other semester.
- Students can choose academic core or elective courses based on their academic interests.
- Students can choose courses that will go towards the CORE GPA that will be factored into the college recalculated GPA.
- Students can choose courses that meet the college major requirements at the college he/she may attend.
- Students can choose courses that meet 'General Education' Requirements at the college he/she may attend.
